Tell us something about yourself

My name is Sioejeng Tsao. I am an artist and activist and my forte is drawing.

Why did you become an artist?

Ever since I was little I have been drawing stuff. It was a way for me to get lost in my own world.

Which of your projects are you especially proud of?

A piece of mine called: Double Identity. It represents my daily struggle of being a Dutch Chinese woman. When I was younger I wanted to distance myself from my roots. Nowadays, however, I am incredibly proud of my heritage and I can feel my ancestors guiding me whenever I get stuck.

What is your inspiration?

Life, nature and social issues. I am the kind of person who despises injustice. Whenever I feel that my words fall short, I will try to create a visual representation of my thoughts that will speak for itself.

What are your future goals?

I would really like to expand internationally. The Netherlands is a good starting point, but to achieve real growth I would like to further explore my possibilities.
