Looking back at the Asian Raisins Potluck Party

On January 31, 2025, the Asian Raisins Potluck Party took place for the second time. It was a special evening filled with delicious food, inspiring conversations, and valuable encounters. Together with Discriminatie.nl Provincie Utrecht, and Chinese senior citizens’ organization TYPIN, we brought people together to enjoy a diverse mix of dishes and experiences.

What is a potluck event?

Everyone brought a homemade dish to share, creating a table full of flavors from different cuisines: from Peking duck and fresh spring rolls to sweet desserts and savory snacks. This evening was a reminder of how food connects people.

In addition to sharing good food, raising awareness about the Asian community was also central to our conversations. During the event, we talked about our identities as Asians, and held space for personal stories and provided new insights.

Workshop

Kevin Groen also held a transformation workshop that evening, taking participants on an inspiring journey of awareness and personal growth. The atmosphere was warm. People got to know each other, exchanged experiences, and found support in each other. It was wonderful to see how a shared meal could become a platform for connection and empowerment.

Thanks to Discriminatie.nl, Province of Utrecht, and TYPIN.

We would like to thank everyone who was present and contributed in some way, whether it was with a dish, a story, or simply a listening ear. A big thank you also goes to Discriminatie.nl Provincie Utrecht, and TYPIN for this collaboration. Together, we are taking steps towards greater awareness and solidarity within our communities.

Indispensable

A close-knit and proud community is indispensable in our fight against racism towards East and Southeast Asian people in the Netherlands. That is why we, at Asian Raisins, want to foster this connection by offering safe and accessible meeting places to “heal and grow” our communities. With our mission, we want to reflect on the past while focusing on the future:not only by raising awareness about racism within and outside the communities, but also by celebrating the joy of coming together.
